Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear for Sprint release date set for October 4th — you buying?

41

Wondering when you can pick up your own Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and/or Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch for Sprint? The folks at the Now Network have announced forthcoming availability for both, with October 4th being the date they want you to circle on your calendars.

Note 3

The Galaxy Note 3 was revealed to pretty rave impressions earlier this month, with Samsung applauded for building on the game-changing features the Note 2 brought us. It seems like a worthy successor, though we won’t be able to pass full judgment until we give it a full workout for ourselves. It features a 5.7-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, Android 4.3 and more.

We also can’t forget that S-Pen and all the great apps and features that take advantage of it. Be sure to take a look at our Note 3 hands-on if you want a closer look at what will make this a device worth dropping $350 for (after a two-year contract signing).

Galaxy Gear

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smart watch was a different story. It wasn’t quite what we expected in terms of design, and while functionality seems quite decent you’ll only be able to use the thing with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to start.

Samsung aims to bring it to more of their devices — namely the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Note 2 — in due time, though we’re not sure when that’s supposed to happen. They also have yet to commit to bringing full functionality for all Android devices, but it’s something they’ve promised is being looked into as the weeks move on.

It has a 1.63-inch AMOLED display, a James Bond-esque 1.9 megapixel camera and it is said to be able to last up to 17 hours on a single charge. The Galaxy Gear is being let go for a whopping $300, so you’ll want to think long and hard about whether it’ll fit your lifestyle. Taking a look at our wrist-on time is a good place to start if you’re unsure.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Note 3….YES
    Galaxy Watch….NO

    1. what he said, except on T-MO

    2. On Verizon for $300

  2. I’m all over it! Time to retire my Epic 4G Touch!! Without the stupid watch of course!

  3. I always order through amazon wireless, way cheaper, sure you take the chance of getting a returned unit but can you be 100% sure that the carriers aren’t selling you a returned unit other than taking their word for it.

    1. true but the phone didn’t even come out yet so a refurbished or returned phone is ruled out.

      1. Good point, I wasn’t even thinking about it not being out yet.

  4. The Note 3 looks fantastic but i wish I could buy it without the leather backing. I can just see over a few years that looking really worn.

    1. Pal if you have this phone ‘over a few years’ then I’ll personally buy you the Note 8 when it comes out…lol. J/k….

    2. Two things about that leather back:

      1) Its not actually leather, its plastic that looks like leather, so you probably won’t get that much wear and tear.

      2) Its a removable back, so if you do get a lot of wear and tear, you can just get a new back for around $40 from samsung or $3 on eBay.

    3. Doubtless you’ll be able to buy replacement battery covers should you so desire.

  5. I haven’t heard anything about it…..but will the Note 3 be Tri-Band compatible on Sprint?

    1. Yes.

      1. Nope. LTE 1900mhz only. No 800lte or 2500/2600 lte.

        1. That’s disappointing…

    2. Well I totally stand corrected. My apologies Ron. Thanks tbs…

  6. Yup I’ll be there on the 4th

  7. HTC One Max will be the end all, be all.

    1. Only if it has a stylus that’s as good and as well supported Samsungs

      1. No need for the stylus personally… I’m not going to be drawing on my phone or whatever lil girly activities can be used w/ a stylus. Tap and go like a MAN!

        1. A real man works and has a job. In my job, a phone with a stylus is extremely useful for taking notes that are far more legible than those taken using my finger.

          1. I highly doubt your handwriting is more legible than digital standard print fonts (like the one shown here in the comments).

  8. Already pre-ordered the Note 3 on Verizon. Just hoping that it comes before my next work trip…

  9. Can’t wait definitely trading in my gsIII upgrading to the one up plan on the 4th!

  10. Nah… The LG G2 clobber’s the note 3’s benchmarks even without the extra gig of ram, (but there is graphic ram) so for the extra 100 dollars the s-pen is not worth it.

    1. What, the whole point is the s-pen so you can replace your notepad with this.

      1. That is one of the big points.. but I am concerned about the LTE band support

    2. Source please.

      1. Just look at benchmark comparisons on youtube.

  11. There’s no support for Sprint’s 2 new LTE bands. This is a problem if you want building penetration (LTE 800 band 26) and uber-speed outdoors (LTE 2500/2600 band 41).

  12. Still trying to figure out the logic of Sprint offering it for $349 instead of $299 like everyone else (to start). I’ll still be purchasing through Best Buy (since I’ll have gift cards to use), but hoping that it won’t be the same/similar scenario as last year where it took a couple weeks until after the Sprint release, for Best Buy to have it in stock. And they only offered the white version, initially.

  13. The LG G2 seems like quite a good deal from Verizon. But the Note 3 has a larger screen etc. Its nice to have choice!!!

  14. Wait for the 2nd Galaxy Gear… because samsung will be coming out with the 2nd edition very quickly. Plus, usually the first one is a catastrophe.

  15. Yes, I WANT to buy the Note 3! Am I alone in thinking the back of that thing looks amazing!

    1. Then slap your face with that “Samsung Galaxy Note 3” for all of the trolling against me and “Nintendo”.

    2. Troll?

      Keep on trying.

YOU and “Ashley King” = cannot face the FACTS. ‘Nuff said.

      1. Dude, that’s my post. I wrote it. It’s my giveaway. It’s not a troll comment. You’re about to be banned from commenting on Phandroid next, as well as having been banned from WiiUDaily, PS4Daily, GameFans, etc.

  16. Was going to get the note 3 and the gear. But now I’m going to get the Sony smart watch

  17. no thanks….

    nexus bitches!!!

  18. Definitely going to get this phone. I can’t decide what color though, I have the white Note 2 now. I also can’t decide if I want to switch to Tmobile or stay with Sprint. Help please.

  19. It is only single band LTE on Sprint. Epic fail. 2nd band LTE (2600) is already live in a few markets, and 800 LTE coming soon. Shame on Samsung/Sprint for releasing an out of date phone that a customer will have to suffer with for 2 years.
