While the 8GB of internal storage inside the OUYA wasn’t a huge problem for most, some have been a bit unhappy with the paltry initial offering. Thankfully OUYA has been listening, and has decided to bring us 16GB of storage… inside the new all-white OUYA. The device is now available for $130, which is just over $30 more than what the original launched for.

$30 for just 8GB more is a bit unnerving, but OUYA will soon be giving folks another option for expanding storage as the company has promised a software upgrade that should enable support for USB flash drives. We’re not sure how well that will work for installing games and apps, but it’s a heck of a lot better than being confined to what comes pre-installed.

The timing of this release is interesting, with Sony’s PlayStation 4 now available and the Xbox One set to launch this Friday. OUYA continues to contend that their console offers tremendous value, and that it deserves a spot in your home up next to the big boys.

Whether that turns out to be reality remains to be seen, but they certainly aren’t shy about trying to steal some of the spotlight from the major players of the industry. Be sure to order one at OUYA’s site if you’re interested .

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Want to get one…. but unsure if I should. I’m thinking chromecast will just replace the ouya.

    1. I am waiting till Ouya 2

    2. I think you need to do some Googling.

      1. Lol. I know chromecast can’t do much yet…. but future I think it will do much more.

  2. I was a kickstarter backer, and I mainly bought the Ouya for XBMC and emulators, but I actually play not-emulated games on it every single day. It’s my go-to system now. I got into the beta USB testers group, and it has worked flawlessly for me. I have about 16gb worth of games installed on my 8gb Ouya.

    1. That’s quite the story. Any reason why you chose to use the Ouya over HDMI-Out from your mobile device?

  3. I wanted one, but I don’t think I’d ever use it. I have my Wii for all my emulation needs, phone and tablet for casual android gaming, and PS4 for real gaming.

    1. True. It’s mostly for people with no gaming platform at all. But even then, if you have a tablet, why bother?

  4. They ever fix the external storage issue? Mine wouldn’t take any type of external capabilities!

  5. Does the Ouya controller work as a native gamepad? I never thought about that before. Hmm….

    1. Yes. The OUYA controller works for Android devices as a native gamepad. I would think they’d do well to design an adjustable phone mount for their controller and create an OUYA store for Android phones. With some software work people could, in theory, play a game on their OUYA and then pick up where they left off on their phone.

But I digress. Your answer is yes. I have used my OUYA controller on my HTC One and several other devices. If you are thinking of buying an OUYA or a controller OTHER than the White Edition, I would recommend asking when the store got it in stock. If it’s more than a month old, you’re risking getting one of their older models (they recently improved the controller hardware). Otherwise your best bet is to buy from ouya.tv (U.S. only).

  6. Changing the color of crap doesnt make it better. Nice try OUYA.

  7. really ouya is going to steal a spotlight? if anything, ouya better hope no one sneezes and blows out what is left of their candle…
