As we inch closer to the release of HTC’s upcoming One followup, we’re beginning to see 3rd party accessories leak their way online. Yesterday we showed you a very simple, generic plastic case for the device, featuring an extra cutout above the main camera hole. This helped to fuel rumors that the device could, in fact, find itself equipped with either a fingerprint scanner or extra camera lens for improved low-light shooting (or higher-res images).
Although we still don’t have any answers on which it might be (I’m still hoping for a dual-camera array), we do have a few more leaked cases showing the same odd hole placement, just about the main camera/LED flash. Judging from these heavy-duty cases, we can’t help but wonder if a fingerprint scanner would be difficult to finger in a such a tiny hole space.
What do you guys think: would you rather see the HTC One 2 come with high-res/low-light dual cameras, or a fingerprint scanner ala the HTC One Max?
Mystery hole….. Giggititty !
Bastard! Had a similiar thought! (barely suppresses laughter)
…..Lol all right!
Difficult to finger in such a small hole space, eh? As George Takei would say: “Oohh myy!”
Can’t help but thing that shape is for a fingerprint scanner.
Is not a comfortable place for a fingerprint scanner.
That’s where the Atrix’s scanner is located.
I used to own an Atrix and it’s not there. It is on the top edge where your finger goes instinctively to turn on the screen.

Yea, I was talking about the smaller top hole. I have the atrix, I know where the scanner is.
Simply two different cameras.
The bottom one, I’m assuming is the main camera and on the side is the flash.
The little one, I have no idea. I’m guessing a mic for noise cancellation.
Now this top one. This is what confuses me. If you look at the case, it doesn’t look like your finger would be able to swipe there. What about an IR blaster? That could be the placement of the IR blaster.
*looks closer*
Never mind. It’s on the back of the phone. That would be bad placement. What urks me is how these companies know what the HTC Two looks like. I mean, I wanna know. >=.3
Odd mystery hole………….
The case might be real but the phone in the pictures are fake.
Maybe its for a pico projector?
Hoping its something more interesting than a secondary camera. Nothing wrong with the megapixel camera, especially if its upgraded to make the pictures even better.
Scanner at the top. Camera at the bottom.
Take a look at the current HTC one… The camera and flash are right where the large cutout on this case is. That will most likely not change. So, the large cutout is for the camera. Duh, no need to even explain that.
Now, the top, smaller cutout. That’s too small for a fingerprint scanner in my opinion, and it would be awkward to have it there. I’m holding my One in my hand right now and your finger does not naturally go to that spot, and it’s awkward to make it go there. So, my guess is that HTC is going to try and make large improvements to the pictures the HTC one takes by adding a second sensor as the article suggests.
That’s my guess.
My finger naturally falls to that spot every time. The only time I move it is to type.
It’s definitely a scanner for a right index finger.
Anyone slightly turned off on the more oval shape the new HTC One seems to be taking?
maybe it’s the IR blaster… i know i definitely hate having to point my phone downward to use the remote feature lol
looks like the leaked pictures phandroid got were accurate http://ydfgg.com/2014/01/02/htc-m8-specs-leak/
the hole in the pictures from this look looks way too small to be a fingerprint scanner, and almost too small to be a camera. only time will tell what it is.
What about the possibility of a dual LED flash?
What’s Chris Chavez’s educated guess? I’ve swapped to iPhone 5s because it fits my hand better than the huge Phablets coming out these days. But very interested in going back to HTC after getting rid of my old Thunderbolt. I would say I like being able to use my phone with one hand, but I’m sure somebody will ask “What are you doing with the other” – lol

most people can still use these phones with one hand, it just requires you to stretch or slide your hand slightly at the times you need to reach that upper left hand corner (assuming your right handed)
Everybody says it would be a bad placement for a fingerprint scanner but I think it is perfect. My index finger kind of naturally goes there when I’m holding my phone.
Yup I agree, I’ve had a Fujitsu Android phone that had a fingerprint scanner there, which also when pushed acted as a screen on/off button. It was perfect placement and out of the way, and seems to me much less awkward than the iPhone scanner (though I guess that one works better with the thumb?)
Am I crazy to think that it’s just a back speaker possibly?
This isnt the htc one 2. It’s the htc one +…sadly enough
