AT&T has officially announced early availability details for not only the Samsung Galaxy S5, but also the latest line of Samsung Gear smart watches (including the Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit). The former — which is Samsung’s main flagship launch of the year — is going up for pre-sale starting tomorrow, and there are a few different price points depending on your route of choice:
- $200 with a new two-year contract
- $0 down, $25 per month for 18 months or $32.50 per month for 12 months with AT&T Next
- $650 full retail
While we don’t get a solid release date for the device, AT&T does mention it will begin shipping “early April.” We also gets prices for the latest gear devices, with AT&T bringing the Gear 2 at $300, while the Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit will both be offered at $200.
All of them are slated to ship early April, as well, so we imagine it’s coming out right alongside the Galaxy S5. These things might not be running Android Wear, but if you’re all-in with the Samsung camp for the foreseeable future then they may still be capable devices for your needs.
By the by, AT&T is offering $50 off the package of a Galaxy S5 + a Gear 2 or Gear 2 Neo between March 21st and June 5th, so be sure to take advantage of that if you were planning to pick the duo up together.
We went hands-on with all these things back at Mobile World Congress, so don’t forget to check all of that out if you haven’t already. Looking to grab one? Let us know in the comments below!
In other news: Who is NOT going to preorder the GS5?
In other news: Who is NOT going to preorder the Gear 2. $300 is ridiculous. If moto 360 comes out for $250 or less game over. Moto for the win.
I did not even get to the Gear 2, just the GS5 portion. left a sour taste in my mouth.
I’m in that boat. I mean, I used to be all for Samsung, but I don’t like the whole Samsung stuff only works with Samsung stuff. I like to mix tech, and Samsung isn’t helping with that.
I too frown at anything proprietary within an ecosystem like Android. You alienate so many of your potential consumers that way.
Yeah, they’re pricing this too high. Not really something folks would rush to spend or take a chance on. Between $200-$250 is more reasonable to me. I’d pause more to think about it then.
I’m not too fond of the smartwatches, but that Moto 360 looks pretty slick. If the price is right, I’ll nibble.
I know I’m not.
…But this just in: I am most likely going replace my GS2 with it after seeing it in person. BOOM!
well that’s understandable since The GS2 is much different in design and function from the contemporary Galaxy Line… but if you own a GS3, GS4, HTC one, LG G2, or something in that range..than it is my honest believe that the GS5 is not the best option as far as upgrades go..just saying.
Well… money-saving you should say.
But for those that don’t spend their money on anything else except phones, then it could be a good upgrade.
Though my eyes are on the HTC One 2014 and the LG G3. Those are both lookin’ mighty nice.
Yeah I see your point. The design really hasn’t changed in the past 3 years. I actually don’t like the design of the One or the Z2, but that’s just me. But yeah, anyone that has bought a flagship phone in the past few months to a year, look elsewhere.
I have the GS3, and am very happy with what I’m seeing from the GS5. Maybe it’s not compelling upgrade from the GS4, but I’m really looking forward to it.
$650? LOL, not an apple fanboi, I’ve still got a Note1, but I’d get an iPhone before I’d pay that much off contract. Sammy trying to out Apple Apple?
That’s how much phones usually cost. Just for comparison, the 16GB iPhone 5S also costs $650 off contract…
That’s kind of what I was thinking. You can’t find a brand new top-end device for $199 off contract at launch….or probably for a couple years.
when you get your Samsung Galaxy S 5 and need it unlocked you can get a unlock code here: http://gsmunlocklabs.com/unlock-samsung-galaxy-s-5/
Wasn’t the Note 1 $699 off contract when it was first released?
Nope, $574 on Dec. 8th from Amazon Germany.
Note 1 didn’t have LTE yet, so instead of waiting til Feb/March when they released it in the USA, I got mine from Amazon, without all the BS that at&t loads on them. LOL, it even came shipped with German language, and a sticker on the screen in English, on how to get it to English language.
