With the latest Moto X now available (check out our Moto X 2014 review) and the next entry in Verizon’s long-standing DROID line ready to make its debut, the company thought it wise to start discounting some older phones. The Motorola DROID MAXX has seen a very nice price drop to the low, low price of zero dollars and zero cents.
Of course, that “free” price tag does come with the need to sign a two-year commitment to Verizon service. You avoid that particular situation by buying the smartphone outright for $500 or $24.99 per month through 24 months with Verizon Edge. Folks should note that the Motorola DROID MAXX no longer comes in a standard 32GB — Verizon halved that internal storage right around the device’s first major price cut.
The Motorola DROID MAXX was a pretty good phone for its time. It housed all of the same innards and had a lot of the same specs and features as the Moto X of yesteryear, but added some nice touches like a massive battery, Kevlar-coated backing, wireless charging and more.
It’s still quite the serviceable device for anyone looking for a smartphone that doesn’t have a hefty price tag, though we’d understand if you’re feeling a bit hesitant now that it’s being outclassed by newer offerings. Be sure to head to Verizon and take a look if you’re interested.
This is still a great phone. I can’t kill the battery on mine in one day, it gets great reception, and it’s plenty peppy. I’m not a mobile gamer and I don’t install tons of useless apps, but I haven’t had any problems with lag, freezing, or force closes. Once you disable the bloat it’s like a Moto X with a bigger gas tank! Now if only they can get Sunshine working for 4.4.4.
I wish they would just announce the damn Turbo already!
