In what would appear to be a small scale comeback if we didn’t know better, @evleaks has dished out another juicy render for us to lay eyes on. It’s the Motorola DROID Turbo we’ve been hearing so much about. Verizon is expected to reveal the device on October 28th, and the Motorola-made wonder is poised to be their best DROID yet.
The renders don’t really show us anything we didn’t already know about the device. It looks like a DROID, especially that classic Verizon Red model and all the Kevlar shining through on the back. We do get a very clear look at the front of the device which seems to boast a very prominent speaker grill. Shots of the device’s backside don’t turn up any rear-facing speakers so it’s possible the front speaker will be doing the heavy lifting for all external audio needs.
A previous leak of ours gave us an idea of what to expect under the hood. Verizon will make it a point to push the following areas once it heads to store shelves:
- Its 21 megapixel camera and Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display
- Its 2.7GHz quad-core processor and software like Moto Voice, Intelligent Imaging and Zap Zone (for beaming photos to friends, to nearby TVs or quickly capturing screenshots using voice and sending it off to whoever you want)
- 48 hours of battery life (thanks to a 3,900mAh battery) and the ability to get 8 hours of life with 15 minutes of charging through the Motorola Turbo Charger
- Metalized Glass Fiber build materials coated with Kevlar fiber, water resistant repellent coating, Corning Gorilla Glass
- 32GB of internal storage and more
And with that — plus the news that the Nexus 6 will be made available for all major US carriers — Verizon customers have found themselves with some tough purchase decisions in the weeks and months ahead. Let us know if you’ll be looking to grab this once it’s made available later this year.
As a two-time Droid owner, I can’t wait to see this thing in action.
My droid Maxx from last year was the best phone I have ever owned.I’m with Verizon I never drop a call and people can always hear me and I always have reception that’s important to me on a phone
Yah I don’t what the hate for Droids are for. This one maybe doesn’t look as good as the RAZR, but it looks fine and distinct and I like that. My only problems with it are the resolution (1080p is fine and less battery drain) and no 64GB version.
This thing is awesome. Too small for my tastes, sadly.

Almost pulled the trigger on the moto x. Glad I didn’t. The nexus is too big for my tastes. Looking forward to this. Been rocking my S3 since it came out. Nothing has impressed me since that time.
It seems all of the good choices lead to Motorola. I haven’t been there since the original Droid, returning sounds fun.
Capacitive buttons though? With the (soon to be) old nav icons?
That’s a bonus for me. I hate on screen buttons, as well as the new style for buttons in 5.0. I will be in the store the day this baby comes out.
The back of the black one looks very different to me. A different kind of hatch pattern and inset slightly at the edges. Not like the kevlar pattern I’ve seen.

I believe a variant for AT&T and Tmo recently passed through the FCC. It just won’t be called “Droid”.

Hoping for more storage options. 32gb is too small for 4k video and 20mp pictures.
With the weird news about the Moto X (2nd Gen) and Verizon, I’m wondering if this phone will also exist with the Advanced Calling 1.0 Nightmare. Hell, even if it does I might be interested. The specs look pretty solid, but I’ll want someone else to get it and review before I sink my cash into it. I’ve been away from Android as a daily driver for two years, but really appreciate all of the work they have been putting to their “mostly stock” Moto devices in the last year or so.
I just don’t want to be broken-hearted again, like I was with the Moto X (2nd Gen).
Maybe its me, but the lack of a micro sd slot kills this and the Nexus 6 for me.
Yeah, it is uber lame at this stage. MicroSD should be as common as a headphone port. 32gb can get eaten so quick. Apps and the OS can take 5-7 right off the bat. Start saving photos and videos with these big cameras and video files. Download music. Root and ROM and make recovery backups. Add your own ringtones. Tons of contacts. Hundreds of apps and all of their data storage space needed, Blah blah and anymore, 32gb is getting a bit on the thin side. 32gb is a minimum, but 32gb with no MicroSD… not good.
Beast of a phone … And chin.

This phone does look really impressive. What concerns me is the OS upgrade time (i.e. when the next Andriod iteration comes out). Verizon is glacially slow as it is. This may be unfounded, but I fear a Verizon exclusive could be even slower…
My Ultra was updated a few weeks after the Moto X was. I just hope they keep that pace.

Tough decision, but I think I’m sticking with my Xperia Z3v choice. It was really down to the smallest of details, and the SD card slot swung it in the Sony’s favor. Also, I expect the Xperia’s camera to be much better (but I could be wrong).
Future proofed like none other. Just needs the updates, which Motorola is really good at…
