Who says you have to settle? Meizu has introduced a pro version of their MX4, and it certainly offers enough of an upgrade over the original to make us take notice. The spec sheet for this thing reads about as good as any phone on the market right now. Here’s the quick rundown of its internals:
- Exynos 5430 (4x ARM Cortex-A15 @ 2.0GHz and 4x ARM Cortex-A7 @ 1.5GHz)

- Dual-band WiFi AC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, aGPS w/ GLONASS, NFC, Fingerprint Scanner
- 3,350mAh batte
- 150.1 x 77.0 x 9.0mm, 158g
Speaking more on its features, Meizu says the display is the absolute most power efficient in the game. Most 2K displays tend to get a bad rep for their tendency to guzzle on battery juice, but their JDI-based panel uses a technology called Panel Self Refresh to cut down on power consumption.
Moving to the audio, the MX4 Pro sports “Retina Sound,” which is a really pretty name for hi-fidelity audio. They pride themselves on their history of making audio products in other categories and for being able to bring that same goodness to mobile. It features Meizu’s top-line amplifier OPA1612, as well as a passive audio filter (which is apparently an industry first).
Other features include voiceprint identification (touchless control, even while the phone is in sleep mode) thanks to a specialized audio chip, and the first “front-press” fingerprint scanner in an Android phone.
By front-press, they’re referring to the ability to simply place your finger on the scanner and have it read by the phone, instead of the swipe motion you need on other handsets with fingerprint scanners. It should be comparable to Apple’s Touch ID scanner on the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+. If it works anywhere near as smoothly as it does on Apple’s phones we’re definitely all for it.
Adding to the premium feel at every corner of this device is a metal alloy chassis with a very nice, clean finish. Unfortunately all this goodness won’t be available worldwide immediately as Meizu didn’t give any information for folks other than those living in China.
If you’re lucky enough to be in that region then you can expect its arrival December 6th at prices of CN¥2,499 ($410), CN¥2,699 ($440) and CN¥3,099 ($510), for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, respectively. I don’t know about you guys, but I have a feeling Meizu is about to challenge Xiaomi and take the ultra-competitive Chinese market by storm.

Exynos 5430 and a 2560×1536 display?!
Exynos 5430 doesnt have a great GPU, it worked well on the Galaxy Alpha because of the 1280*720 display, however 2560×1560 is a step too far and 3D performance will be horrible.
Even normal usage will suffer a little.

This phone might be heating up really fast and stays hot and experiences slow down quickly.
Wow Meizu, I tilt my hat off to you. Amazing spec and the phone looks really premium and to couple that with the price = competition = consumer heaven. Looking forward to the next few years to see what will be offered. I’m sold on the Nexus 6 for the next 2 years “maybe”.

I’m a lover of android, but 1 question, I know with 64bit processors being released with more from snapdragon early next year, will using previous gen chips also SD805 in upcoming devices really be that bad of a decision with the 808 and 810 releasing soon
