Nokia C1 smartphone leaked, will reportedly run Android
Nokia’s N1 Android tablet was the company’s first device since splitting off from Microsoft, but the group is already reportedly working on a follow-up. This time around it’s a smartphone — allegedly dubbed the Nokia C1 — and it could be on its way in 2015.
Microsoft’s contract with Nokia prohibits them from manufacturing smartphones until 2016, but apparently their manufacturing deal with Foxxcon (who produces the Nokia N1) gives them a legal loophole to provide a smartphone with their name on it well before that.
So what should we be expecting? Well, the Nokia N1 wasn’t very exciting in terms of raw specs and features, so we wouldn’t expect much different from a smartphone counterpart. That said, Nokia’s likely going to put something together that’ll go easy on the wallets and still provide a capable smartphone experience.
The rumored specs sheet includes a 5-inch display with unknown resolution, an Intel chipset, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and an 8 megapixel camera. The software is likely to consist of Android 5.0 Lollipop with Nokia’s Z Launcher placed on top.
It’s possible we could see Nokia making a trip to 2015’s CES, and we wouldn’t be surprised if they had this very device in tow. That said, there’s no solid information on when, exactly, they’ll announce it, nor is it clear when it’ll be available. It’ll be interesting to see what they’ve come up with, though if the iPad-like N1 is anything to go by then there might not be much to talk about when it’s all said and done.
