Hyundai’s Blue Link app will soon support Android Wear smartwatches

With the wearable market set to explode in 2015, automakers are beginning to take notice. Today, Hyundai announced an update coming soon to their Blue Link app which will finally add Android Wear support, allowing Hyundai owners to communicate with their cars straight from their wrist on both 1st and 2nd generation Blue Link equipped Hyundai models.

By itself, Blue Link talks to your smartphone and allows owners to control functions like remote start, windows, or locate their car in a crowded parking lot, as well as provide service information specific to the vehicle.

While you wont be able to summon your car like the Batmobile (maybe next year?), Blue Link still offers some additional functionality outside of what you’re probably used to from a car. Hyundai mentions that they teamed up California based Station Digital Media to help nail down all the voice commands and get everything working on smartwatches. Here’s the full list of what you’ll be able to do using an Android Wear powered device:

Hyundai says they’ll be showing off this new functionality during CES next week, with an update to the Blue Link app hitting the Google Play Store sometime during Q1 of this year. Blue Link with Android Wear will support first generation Blue Link models like the 2012 Hyundai Sonata, as well as second generation models like the 2015 Genesis, Sonata, Azera, and upcoming 2016 Elantra and Veloster.
