Inbox by Gmail comes to more browsers and gets a tablet user interface in today’s update

Inbox by Gmail, Google’s new alternative to a traditional email system, was introduced in an invite-only format not too long ago. This indicated the service wasn’t fully ready for primetime, and it wasn’t: there were only apps fit for phones at the time, and you couldn’t use it in any browser other than Google Chrome.

Thankfully that is no longer the case. Google has announced a new update today that brings a full-fledged tablet user interface for those who wish to use it on Android tablets (and on the iPad if you’re into that sort of thing).

What’s more is that they’ve also opened the service up to more browsers: you can now use Inbox on Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Unfortunately it still blocks those using Internet Explorer, Opera or any other browser, but we’re sure Google will look to include any HTML5-compliant browser as time goes on.

Download the Android app here, and for those interested in checking it out in one of the three compatible browsers you simply head to inbox.google.com and sign in using your Google account. Need an invite? Ask around — they’re quite plentiful these days, and most people are happy to oblige.
