What’s inside Motorola’s mysterious box? A new Moto E with 4G LTE, a faster processor and more

New Moto E 4G LTE 2015 popup press conferedDSC08308

If you don’t remember, Motorola was supposed to be sending us a “box” with “everything we need” inside today. What was inside that box? A press conference. No, really — it’s actually a press conference inside a box, uncomfortable nametags, paper-thin Rick Osterloh and all. It was all to unveil the new Moto E, a follow-up to the budget device from yesteryear.

This new Moto E comes with 4G LTE, an added front-facing camera and a faster quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz. You’ll also get a slightly bigger battery at 2,390mAh, 8GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM and a 4.5 inch 960 x 540 display. It’ll ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop so there’s no need to anxiously await the latest version of Android out of the box.

If that’s not enough, you’ll like the fact that it’ll only cost $150 unlocked (you can get a model with a Snapdragon 200 chipset and a lack of LTE for $30 cheaper). Not bad for those specs, we’d say, and it should be a very capable smartphone for someone who doesn’t need a supercomputer in their pockets

The device is headed to more than 50 countries in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia starting today, with the United States getting the ability to order it straight from Motorola.com. You can add a couple of cool cases for $20 each if you like, so be sure to check those out while you’re placing your order. Stay tuned as we look to show you everything inside that marvelous box later today.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. All that build-up for nothing.

    1. Motorola will always be useless and pitiful

      1. As are your comments

  2. 1GB of RAM should be illegal.

    1. This phone is not for people who think “1GB of RAM should be illegal.”

      1. here here!

      2. Hyperbole brother hyperbole… look it up.

        1. Duh. I’m just saying this phone isn’t for people who worry about things like RAM. It’s a low-end, budget phone. The demographic for this phone is not the same as a SGS6.

  3. isnt the 410 chip 64bits y 1g of ram its not like ram cost alot really sad

  4. Nice Budget Phone… The Masses will be pleased…

  5. Step 1: Cut a hole in the box.

    1. Step 2: put your junk in that box.

      1. Step 3: grab scissors

        1. Ummmmm NO.

          1. ah come on! u dont even know where I was going with this! (neither do i haha)

      2. Step 3: put a rat… in that box

  6. You’re the first site I’ve come across that explained/showed just what “fits in a box” meant. Thanks for clearing that up. Odd, but thanks anyhow. :)

  7. That’s a great budget phone. Doesn’t that it pretty close to the moto g though now? In terms of specs, I can see it cannibalizing moto g sales…

  8. You knuckleheads (those complaining below about sub par specs) are missing the point, a decent phone for $150. Moto makes decent products, and seems to care/get it. If they can do all this for 150, why am I paying 5 times that for a phone with a few better specs? There is a real disconnect here.

  9. So isn’t this really the original Moto G that had LTE? I think it’s great to see LTE at this price. By the way I have one to those original Moto G LTE 8 GB unlocked and it’s awesome. Came in handy whenever I had dropped my main phones.

  10. ewww those are horrible specs ;) jk jk jk what does everyone expect for the price?? I think its awesome that more people that really cannot afford much, can go out and get a pretty decent phone and have access to everything that anyone else has access too. Bravo Moto!!

  11. So does the unlocked version from moto work with Verizon post paid?

    1. No. Motorola’s website does not make mention of CDMA radios, so it will not work on Verizon or Sprint.

  12. You didn’t mention the expandable storage! Picture 9. http://www.cnet.com/pictures/check-out-the-cheap-4g-motorola-moto-e-pictures/

  13. What no chocolate? Sigh!

  14. What phone is better? Moto G or Moto E?

    1. I’d go E since it has a bigger battery and probably better battery life with the lower resolution screen. And it has a newer better processor. Hell, I’ll probably take the E over a 1st gen Moto X.

  15. I think the new G is missing LTE still, but you get a decent flash on the back and a bigger screen.

    1. You can get the G with LTE…

      1. Only first gen, not the most recent second gen.
