The Motorola DROID Turbo is infamously one of the only current Motorola phones not on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Motorola previously confirmed that the device would leapfrog the base Lollipop build and go straight to the more stable 5.1.
But when? We’re still not exactly sure, but one reputable Verizon test engineer claims to have the details. He confirmed on Google+ (the post has since been deleted, but you can read the full post and conversation here) that the update is scheduled for a mid-June release. That isn’t a tone of time, but even if we assume “Mid-June” means “June 15th” that’s still 25 days, which is enough to make those who have been missing out on Lollipop all this time a bit antsy (except maybe Chris).
Furthermore, the tech noted that Verizon’s delays with firmware upgrades are typically thanks to their stringent testing policies to make sure nothing is impacted on the network side, such as Advanced HD Voice Calling over LTE.
So there you have it — the upgrade is basically ready, but Verizon is holding it up. That’s their prerogative, though, so all we can say is to sit tight and hope that the mid-June window holds up.

My Droid Turbo is the most disappointing phone I’ve owned in 3 years. All that Moto Magic that Moto X and G fans Rave about is nothing but Motorola’s UI getting in the way of everyday use. Moto Notifications is pretty good but telling me I’m at home and silencing my phone so I won’t be disturbed without asking is nasty. My point is I couldn’t care less about a lolipop update that won’t fix the Motorola UI. Now I’m eye balling the new ASUS ZenPhone Two.
Have you used any Nexus devices recently? If you really don’t want Motorola’s add-ons, just turn them off. Once you do, your phone will act just like a Nexus.
I own a Nexus 7 tablet, does that count? With Lolipop. I like it fine. Just hard to carry in my pocket.
I have tried to turn Moto off. Moto keeps putting notifications on my phone like yesterday. Asking me to try Moto voice ETC.
P.S I bought the Motorola Phone because of the Rave Moto UI Reviews. It just has not worked out for me. Instead how about a call log that can block calls, Without buying a Call Blocking App with 15 other things I don’t want.
ASUS Phone is off the table. Not built for Verizon. I’m going wait, unless I break down and get HTC One (M9) I do not use a camera much.
Call “blocking” in that sense is built in to the X as well. You add the number, and use the “send all calls to voicemail” option. If you actually want the call blocked, not sent to voicemail, you have to do that through your carrier, no call blocking app can prevent it from going to voicemail without picking up the call and hanging it up.
Most of Motorola’s current holdup with 5.x updates seem to be due to VoLTE support. I get the impression that between poor performance on 5.0.x and VoLTE in 5.1, the carriers are being a pain.
