Yesterday it was revealed that the OnePlus 2 would use a new version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset. It’s “v2.1” and they’ve gone through some revisions to make sure the chipset has no overheating issues.
And everyone proceeded to call them liars. And now they’re mad. No, really, they are actually mad. They maintain that the Snapdragon 810 is a great chipset, and that there won’t be any performance sacrifices made in order to keep the heat down.
Their claims don’t seem unfounded, with AnandTech’s analysis showing that this version of the Snapdragon 810 actually has a 33% advantage in memory bandwidth and a slight increase in clock speed for its GPU.
The biggest reason they’re pissed off is because they feel they really didn’t push the limit in going with the Snapdragon 810, but that would be a very narrow way to look at it. For starters, the Snapdragon 810 is still a top-line chipset despite some of its early issues.
They also revealed that it costs more than the Snapdragon 801 ever did, noting that their phone will most certainly cost more than $322 as a result. How much higher? They weren’t at liberty to say just yet, but we’re hoping they’ll look to keep their trend of accepting razor-thin profits up, so we won’t be expecting it at much more than $400.
All of that is to say that it’s too early to pass a judgment on a phone we haven’t even seen yet (well, that’s not entirely true — the phone in the image above is an actual OnePlus 2 prototype, but it’s kind of hard to tell) so hold your horses and wait for all the details to come to light.
It looks big, so now *I’m* mad!
I bet the idea of the invite system was thought up by that girl in that goofy shark or whatever it is hoodie.
Haha, Probably.
Looks like a Left Shark onesie. I have a dragon one. Gotta it from an anime convention. They make me feel young again… eh… younger… LoL!!
I want that shark onesie!!
Because she appears to be in charge or what?
She’s a woman. Not a girl. And feel free to give us any reason you are willing to make that bet that isn’t sexist or racist. I dare you.
But I don’t know how to not be sexist or racist lol
Maybe he just said that because she looks kinda stupid in that jacket and her facial expression is goofy. Also, if he really wanted to be sexist or racist, wouldn’t he also pick on the other woman in this picture or the two stereotypically looking asian guys? Not every light joke about someone who’s a minority or a woman isn’t automatically racist or sexist.
In b4 invite system sucks
Who cares if there mad? If they made there product available to everyone instead of there dam invite system it might sooth some folks. And the 810 has caused multiple problems in every device it’s been put in so that’s automatically going to put people off.
U mad bro?
Lovely. Now customers can finally realize. They don’t like it when people are rude to them back.
Sadly, this is not a good business practice. Kinda why I’m not an entrepreneur.
Yeah seriously. Just deliver the product. Stop acting like children.
But I thought their VIP of marketing (Qualcomm) said there is nothing wrong with their SoC…. but yet they supposedly have a new rev… one that sony recently said has heat issues,
#Facepalm
I treat the snapdragon 810 like ebola, staying far away from it
I call it. The phone will have a notification on the bottom bezel from the picture
everyone looks constipated, i don’t see anyone looking pissed off.
Chick holding phone is a bit of alright
I cannot stand this pathetic company
They look very unhappy with whatever phone that girl is holding. I suspect from the blue light that it might be overheating.
OnePlus has been far from perfect, but I’m a fan. It’s been a great phone for me. My favorite to date. Better than Nexus 5, 4 and Galaxy Nexus. OnePlus is legit and now they need to start acting that way. They don’t need to be pissed they need to let haters hate and to stick to their guns and know they are making sound decisions. Are they frustrating at times? Sure! Are they different than any other players right now? Yep and that’s why I like them.
Totally in agreement and we’ve had the same phone history. Not missing the Nexus 6 at all. the big question is, since the one is so awesome, is there any reason to upgrade, or skip a generation.
That is the quandary. I would have said yes before I went back to the CM 12 Nightlies that are based on Android 5.1.1. I had a lot of battery drain issues with CM 12s. But I’m really happy with the One since flashing that ROM. I think I will end up doing it, but I don’t why yet. Lot’s of haters caught up in stupid semantics. Nice to see a fellow OnePlus fan.
What’d be nice to see is an actual demonstration of *why* the 810 is better than the 801. I know the benchmarks (mostly) say it’s better, but how does it improve the customer experience? All I know is that both phones I’ve had with 801s have been great.. the OPO and the M8. My M9 meanwhile….
They lost me forever with their stupid “invite to give them money” system. Sorry.
