The Elephone 9000 will be a Chinese smartphone to be reckoned with, but what will it do to steal thunder away from local favorites Xiaomi and Huawei? Perhaps being the first phone to stuff a 10-core mobile CPU inside could do the trick.
The phone is rumored to be using MediaTek’s Helio X20 MT6797 chipset, which features 2 high-performance 2.5GHz Cortex-A72 cores, 4 2GHz Cortex-A53 cores, and 4 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 cores.
The phone would ideally scale up and down with changing demand to strike the perfect balance between performance and power consumption when and where needed. A Mali-T800 GPU — which not even Samsung’s flagship Exynos 7420 boasts — should make this the chipset to beat.
Beyond that, the Elephone 9000 appears impressive on paper in a number of other ways. It’ll have a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 20.7 megapixel rear camera, 8 megapixel front camera, a 3,100mAh battery and Android 5.1 Lollipop. It’s due for an October launch, apparently, so there’s still a bit of time to see if anyone else will look to beat Elephone to the punch.

This is getting out of hand… I feel as though they haven’t completely mastered the quadcore chip yet. This is getting almost as ridiculous as the smart phone mega pixel race. Why can’t manufacturers place this much emphasis on battery life, And shatter proof screen technology

I feel the same way, but at the same time they will eventually have to get something right… or I would at least hope so.
Call me when they finally get bluetooth working properly, when they actually meet their GPL responsibilities, when Android updates come to their devices swiftly, and when they remove all the backdoors… until then, no thanks. Oh, and, did they ever fix the sms bug?

This is the main problem with Chinese manufacturers/copycats – they never know when to stop. What seems to them an indisputable improvement becomes a gimmick at some point.

The emphasis on efficiency is great but hopefully battery tech will improve so we see dramatic improvement.
MediaTek..nuff said.. Specs look good of course but no thanks.. Good on them for being first 10 core though.. But competition is always good and this should push the others a bit

Will it also have external storage and replaceable battery?
Does android finally work good with multi task well with multiple cpus? Can more cpus stop the pausing?

Personally I think that more cores that allow for better optimization and improve battery life is a good thing. BUT
1. execution is key and Mediatek isn’t known for that.
2. battery needs to be bigger
Just because a phone has better battery efficiency isn’t an excuse for small batteries. Just as if media file compression improved and cut the size of files in half. Should manufacturers then cut the amount of ROM in phones proportionally?
HECK NO! Tech advancement means that we should always be striving for more.
More efficient use of batteries AND bigger batteries WITH higher energy density = awesome battery life.
And yes I charge my phone each day while in the office. And yes I realize that external chargers are available (and use one on a daily basis) BUT who can tell me that most people would have smaller battery and a thinner phone (the only reason that manufacturers keep resisting big batteries, other than perhaps cost).
Perhaps one day we’ll see a 16 Core phone: 4 cores each at 2.5, 2, 1.5, and 1 GHz.
After all, if you’re browsing the web you probably only need 1.5 GHz and if you’re listening to music than 1 GHz would probably be enough.
