Don’t expect this year’s Samsung Galaxy Note 5 to come with a micro SD card slot

If the recent round of Samsung Galaxy Note 5 leaks have told us anything (like that leaked video from yesterday), it’s the phablet will more than likely feature a design similar to this year’s Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. It makes sense. Glass and metal are a part of Samsung’s new design philosophy, one that does away with the company’s previous (overuse) of cheap feeling plastics. While that’s a big home run in terms of build quality, some sacrifices to the device’s utility apparently had to be made.

According to a new report from SamMobile — like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge — the Galaxy Note 5 too will ditch the micro SD card slot in favor of faster UFS 2.0 internal storage (which can read/write data almost 2 times faster than eMMC 5.0). Of course there will be some debate on if such sacrifices were worth it, with one camp pointing to much more affordable cloud storage as a means of storing larger files and videos. We’re not sure how many long-time users Samsung will alienate in this move, but because this is Android, other options like LG or Sony devices still exist.
