Android 5.1 for the HTC One M9 has been steadily trudging on. A few weeks back, we saw the update hit the unlocked and AT&T models, with a loose release date for T-Mobile and Verizon’s versions planned for the week after that. That was last week and although it’s not officially late, the update is now finally ready to roll out on T-Mobile.
The update — build 2.7.531.6 — brings battery life improvements as well as Google Wallet preloaded (we’re guessing to replace Softcard). T-Mobile also mentions the addition of new ant-theft software that prevents unauthorized factory resets, but you’ll need to first have secured your lock screen and have at least 1 Google account logged in. After that, it’s automatic. No need to mess around with anything else.
The file size is roughly 833MB, so it’s pretty hefty. You’ll want to make sure you’re connected to WiFi and if you’d like to pull the update early, head to your Settings app > About > Software updates > Check now. It’s still rolling out in stages, so don’t freak out if it’s not available quite yet.
