LG’s patent attorneys must have been bored last week, filing for trademarks on the following phrases:
- Super Edge
- Dual Edge
- Upper Edge
- Dual Side Edge
- Side Edge
- Double Edge
- Two Edge
- G Edge
It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to figure out that these awkwardly take aim at Samsung’s recent line of flagship phones including the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus. Did LG lawyers wake up with a personality disorder? Do they intend to start making devices with an “Edge”? Are they simply trolling Samsung for the fun of it? We’ll probably never know, but this latest case of mysteriously awkward fillings is starting to make us very curious.
This isn’t the first time LG trademarks have turned heads. Earlier this year, LG trademarked the term “Meerkat” for video streaming servies, a move we suggested meant LG may have acquired the Meerkat company. As it turns out, that couldn’t have been further from the truth, and Meerkat’s CEO laughed his ass all the way to an “Official Comment”:
LMAO (that’s meerkat’s official comment) http://t.co/8KCYFpw15t

You can be pretty sure LG won’t be making Samsung “Edge” devices anytime soon, but this seriously leaves us wondering, what in the world is happening over in LG’s legal department?
