Samsung Galaxy Note 5 beats Galaxy Note 4 in battery tests
Many were dismayed to learn that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 would get a downgrade in battery capacity compared to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The new device comes in at 3,000mAh, which is a couple of points off the 3,200mAh battery found inside the Note 4.
But there may not be much cause for concern. Early battery tests from PhoneArena show that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 actually lasts up to an hour longer on battery compared to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and is better than many other flagships on average.
There are a number of reasons why this may be possible:
- Test units: it’s possible the battery tested in the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 had a bit more mileage on it than what’s inside the fresh Galaxy Note 5.
- Chipset improvements: Exynos 7420 is very power efficient, so this could be a big difference maker.
- Software improvements: Again, Samsung could have made software tweaks to get even more juice out of the battery.
Whatever the case may be, it’s important to remember that a reduced capacity doesn’t automatically translate to reduced performance. And for what it’s worth, not many people were too worried about that particular aspect of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5’s battery. It’s the “non-removable” part that has everyone up-in-arms, which is a perfectly valid complaint.
