Wondering when Android Pay will finally arrive? We may have our first clue, and it comes from McDonald’s, of all places. The company’s internal documents tell of August 26th as the day they’ll officially be supporting Android Pay.
There’s nothing special going on for the Big Mac factory in relation to the Android Pay launch — it’s wireless payments as we’ve come to know them, and it’ll work with their pre-existing NFC-equipped PoS terminals just as Apple Pay and Google Wallet always have — but it’s nice of them to drop this nugget of information on Google’s launch plans.
We’ll approach the news with a word of caution, though, as the notices still point to August 21st as the launch date for Samsung Pay, which was the same day the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus launched. As we know, that particular payment service wasn’t ready in time on that day, with Samsung still running trials before an expected September launch. That’s a good enough reason to put an asterisk next to this September 26th date for Android Pay, but we’ll be looking out for it either way.
