Motorola, LG reportedly unveiling new Android Wear smartwatches alongside ASUS and Huawei at IFA 2015
It’s been a little over a year since we the first crop of Android Wear smartwatches popped up around the time of Google I/O 2014. While many of us are expecting followups to some these devices by now (Samsung’s got a new Tizen powered smartwatch with a round face ready to go) it almost feels like we’re waiting on something. It could be that Android Wear’s biggest OEMs — Motorola, LG, ASUS, and Huawei — are planning to introduce their new round of smartwatches during this year’s IFA 2015.
That’s the current rumor coming out of Android Authority, anyway. Citing sources familiar with the upcoming Android Wear launches, they’re saying the biggest OEMs in the biz are teaming up to take the spotlight away from the Apple Watch. As for the devices themselves, Motorola will reportedly unveil the new Motorola Moto 360 2015 we’ve been seeing around the wilds of Chicago, along with LG introducing a smartwatch similar to the LG Watch Urbane LTE (only running Android Wear as opposed to WebOS). Both Huawei and ASUS have already revealed their upcoming smartwatches — the ASUS ZenWatch 2 and Huawei Watch — both of which will receive a more formal unveiling, presumably with pricing and availability details for the US.
Of course, like most rumors, nothing is set in stone. We wont really know until IFA 2015 rolls around, which officially kicks off on September 4th in Berlin. With all the buzz surrounding Android OEMs, it should make for a pretty exciting show.
