We weren’t expecting Samsung to have any news to share about slates at their IFA event, as all their hubbub focused on smart watches and the Internet of Things. But it seems the company can’t help but to put on a good tease at the end of these things now.
Samsung showed off an interesting looking tablet at the end of their press conference, though we weren’t given much more than a mere taste of what’s to come. It’s a slate called the Samsung Galaxy View, and one that’s curiously missing a home button. We also see that there’s some sort of kickstand propping it up right. And that’s the gist of it.
But we can still take a couple things away from it. For starters, a tablet with a kickstand like this is one you primarily see on a laptop replacement. We know it wouldn’t be a direct Microsoft Surface competitor, though, as it has the “Galaxy” name typically reserved for Samsung’s tablet.
We can also tell that it’s big — so much so, in fact, that we wouldn’t be surprised if this is the 18.4-inch Android tablet we’ve been hearing about, which would come with the following specs if rumors are to be trusted:
We imagine an 18-inch tablet isn’t the most ideal piece of hardware for your average consumer, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see many workplaces and schools adopting this for productivity needs. And if you can make use of it in a home? Well, more power to you. The hope is that Samsung won’t gouge us on price, especially considering it sports a glutton of only-slightly-better-than-mid-range specs.
We’re told to expect more information to arrive by the end of this month, and we’ll certainly be all eyes and ears when Samsung is ready to take the wraps off.
