Unboxing: Star Wars BB-8 app-enabled Droid by Sphero [VIDEO]
As long time Star Wars fans, we just about lost our damn minds when we saw the new Star Wars Force Awakens merchandise hitting store shelves today (Force Friday as it’s now being called). Probably the most impressive was the a special little toy from the folks at Sphero. Now, this is a company that’s been around for years now, showing off their glowing app-controlled toy balls at trade shows and tech events around the country.
While interesting, nobody really wanted to plop down $120 for a Bluetooth controlled ball. It wasn’t until JJ Abrams showed off a spherical shaped Droid named BB-8, that the company finally struck gold. Some calls were made, hands were shaken and after all was said and done, Sphero had a licensing deal that will make them richer than the original Sphero ball ever could.
At $150, the BB-8 App Enabled Droid (by Sphero) doesn’t come cheap, but we didn’t waste any time in driving out all over the city in search of one. In the end our efforts paid off, and we welcome the newest addition to our family: BB-8. Before we take him for a spin, we decided to do a quick unboxing to show you what your money will get you.
