Discover Card was named as one of the launch partners for Android Pay, but some users have had problems using it on the newly-launched service. That’s because Discover hasn’t officially started supporting it yet.
That should change soon, though, with one customer service rep on Twitter stating that Discover Card would support Android Pay starting September 16th. The Tweet was immediately deleted, which is probably a sign that the rep wasn’t supposed to let that information loose.
@Android adding a Discover card to Android Pay is saying unsupported and giving a Bancorp agreement?
@PhoenixBseagull Hi Brendan, Android Pay will be available to all Discover cardmembers on 09/16/2015. *Angie
That September 16th date is very interesting as it is the original day Google was rumored to launch Android Pay. They ended up launching it more than a week sooner, but it was a staggered rollout process and not everyone was able to jump onto the bandwagon right away.
Was that original September 16th rumor alluding to the more widespread rollout of Android Pay? It’s possible. That would mean that Discover won’t be the only ones officially communicating their plans for Android Pay on September 16th. We’ll also be looking for the Android Pay app to hit Google Play at that time. There are only two days to see what exactly is going to happen, so sit tight!
