Privacy concerns aside, it’s no secret that the Facebook app on Android can be a little… resource intensive. Auto playing videos, location access, if you’re anything like us, you probably uninstalled the app a long time ago in favor of using the actual website from time to time. The only downside to this is you would no longer be able to receive Facebook notifications, that is, unless you liked having your inbox spammed with Facebook emails (no thanks).
Recently, Facebook has added the ability to receive push notifications directly from the Chrome web browser on Android, meaning you can finally have your cake and eat it too. Upon visiting the site, you’ll immediately receive a notification that Facebook would like to send you notifications. Once allowed, you’ll start seeing notifications the same as you would the app, anytime someone likes a photo, leaves a comment, or sends a friend request. It’s pretty straight forward and should you later change your mind, notifications can be expanded to quickly take you to the Facebook Chrome setting where you can turn these off.
But that’s not the only update, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly bringing a new “dislike” button to the social network. It’s probably one of the most user requested features since the site went live. The dislike button isn’t so users can “downvote” content they don’t like, but express themselves in a way where “liking” something wouldn’t be appropriate (think tragic events). Zucks says they’re already working on shipping “a test of it” in the near future.
