So the Amazon Fire Phone is dead, and for decent reason. But there’s still a very good excuse to pick one up in the here and now. The 32GB device is going for just $119 unlocked on eBay, and that comes with a full year’s subscription of Amazon Prime (which you’ll certainly want to be subscribed to if you do a lot of shopping on Amazon).
If you consider that an Amazon Prime subscription on its own now costs $99 per year, you can say you’re essentially getting an Amazon Fire Phone for $20. That’s not a bad bargain even if the phone ended up tanking. You could use it as a backup, or maybe even something to scratch your tinkerer’s itch in the unfortunate event that you can’t do so on your current phone.
For example: this handy guide shows you just how easy it is to wipe the device clean of Amazon’s software and load CyanogenMod up on it. From there, it becomes a $20 phone that could have gone toe-to-toe with any flagship in its heyday.
At the very least, you can also just sell it on a site like Swappa and make a modest profit — nothing wrong with flipping a device for free money. Be sure to consider it over at eBay before the deal expires!
