Amazon’s first ever 10-inch Android tablet is here

Amazon has always been fine going on the smaller end of the scale as far as tablet sizes go, but the company finally wants to go big with their latest Fire HD releases. Amazon today announced 8-inch and 10-inch variants of the Amazon Fire HD, the latter of which is the biggest tablet they’ve made to date.

The tablets are similar in most areas but size, though. Here’s what’s under the hood:

  • 1280 x 800 HD display
  • 1.5GHz quad-core chipset, 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB-16GB options for 8-inch, 16GB-32GB for 10-inch, both expandable up to 128GB
  • 5.0 megapixel rear camera + front camera that can shoot up to 720p video
  • Dual-band WiFi AC, Bluetooth LE
  • 8 hours of battery
  • Fire OS 5 Bellini
  • 214 x 128 x 7.7 mm, 311 g for 8-inch
  • 262 x 159 x 7.7 mm, 432 g for 10-inch

And beyond it being the perfect tablet for an Amazon addict, it’s also pretty affordable. The 8-inch model starts at $149.99, while the 10-inch comes in at just $229.99. You can also add an optional traditional case for $39.99 or a Bluetooth keyboard case for $99.99. A little on the high side for those accessories, but Amazon has to make their money somewhere.

If all of that is a bit too rich for your budget then you may want to consider the Amazon Fire, which goes for just $50. No matter what you decide, look for it to ship September 30th.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.
