After missing its scheduled summer release, things weren’t looking to hot for the Sony Xperia Z4v launch on Verizon. A souped up version of the Sony Xperia Z3+, Verizon had apparently planned to launch the phone sometime in August after officially announcing back toward the end of July. August came and went and for those of you looking forward to picking up the phone whenever it landed on Verizon Wireless are in for a surprise. Turns out of the phone has officially been cancelled. Verizon has updated their initial Xperia Z4v announcement post with the following statement:

“Verizon will no longer be launching Xperia Z4v, however we are committed to supporting Sony Mobile’s product portfolio and will support existing products. Sony is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio.”

Although it certainly looked promising, the Sony Xperia Z4v — with a 2K display and wireless charging — was quickly overshadowed by the launch of an even newer model for international markets. Although Verizon and Sony cite technical difficulties in getting the phone out in time, we can’t help but wonder if Verizon possibly wanted the fresher Sony Xperia Z5 (which recently topped DxOMark’s best smartphone camera rankings) instead.
