Android 6.0 Marshmallow has a hidden file manager, and here’s how you can access it

For one reason or another, Google has been reluctant to ship Android with a built-in file manager. That changes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow… sort of. There’s a file manager present!

And it’s actually quite easy to access. Just do this:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Go to Storage and USB
  • Scroll down, tap Explore

Boom. File explorer. Mind you, this isn’t the most useful thing out there. There are basic functions for sorting, searching and filtering, but nothing that will blow the pants off you.

We still give nods to third-party options like Solid Explorer and ES File Explorer if you need a quality file manager, but it’s interesting to see that Google has finally implemented one for phones which might not come with it standard. Give it a try yourself if you’re on Marshmallow (which should only be the case if you have a Nexus phone).

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

The ASUS ZenWatch 2 seems to have a speaker, too
