It’s the morning after T-Mobile’s extravagant Un-carrier X bash where they not only announced “Binge On,” but threw a huge bash at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles with live musical guests Bruno Mars and Zedd. Now that the buzz has finally worn off, we’re looking back at the announcement and noticing things not looking quite as rosy as they did with beer goggles on.
As discovered by CNN, what the Un-carrier failed to mention during their big event yesterday was that many of their plans would be seeing a price hike, some by as much as $20. Yeah, kind of a big deal.
Starting November 15th — the same day Binge On goes live — new customers looking to get in on T-Mobile’s unlimited plans will now have to pay $95 for a single line of unlimited data, a $15 increase from current $80 pricing. While it’s true unlimited customers get their tethering WiFi hotspot data doubled (from 7GB to 14GB), it might not be worth it for those who never used it in the first place. The price increases aren’t exclusive to unlimited plans. Some family plans — like the 10GB 2-line data plan for $100 — will jump to $120 starting November 15th, along with the 1 line 3GB plan for $60, jumping to $65.
Now we get it. Even with the impending price hike, T-Mobile still manages to offer a better value than you’ll find from AT&T or Verizon. It just would have been nice if this was spelled out more clearly. The whole point of this post is so that any of you looking to make the switch to T-Mobile should do so now, before this Sunday, November 15th to lock in the lower rate while you still can. Current T-Mobile customers need not worry, you’ll be grandfathered in without any change to your monthly bill, while still enjoying the data boost on select plans.
