We’re not entirely sure how many of our readers are still rocking the original Motorola Moto X (the tiny one from 2013), much less how many of you are with Sprint. But if that’s you, you’re in for a treat.
It seems the Moto X 1st Gen is now receiving an update to Android 5.1 Lollipop on Sprint — a pretty big jump from Android 4.4. KitKat its currently running. Sprint says it’s carrying the software version LPA23.12-39.10 and aside from all the goodies that Lollipop brings (you can check out some of those features here), it also carries the necessary patches for Stagefright.
How well Lollipop will run on dual-core Android device from 2 years ago is anyone’s guess, but we’d recommend backing up everything and performing a full factory reset upon updating. It’s not mandatory, but starting fresh could be helpful in avoiding any bugs or other weirdness that comes from making the jump to a new Android version. Especially when its as big as the jump is from KitKat to 5.1.
