Don’t know about you, but we’re super excited about the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” flick hitting theaters in just a few more weeks (December 18th). While it’s somewhat easy to avoid all the trailers and spoilers online, one thing that’s unavoidable is the movie’s merchandising (there’s now The Light/Dark Side ice cream). We get it. The movie is a marketing cash cow and here with a tie-in of their own is Verizon Wireless.
No, it’s not a long overdue R2-D2 themed Droid smartphone. Instead, Verizon will be offering up giving away free Star Wars themed Google Cardboard units starting tomorrow, December 2nd. There’s 4 in all, with designs featuring BB-8, R2-D2, Kylo Ren, and the new First Order Stormtrooper. Hells yeah.
The Cardboard units will only be available in-store, while supplies last, and are only for Verizon Wireless customers. Yeah, we know. That last part is a bummer. Verizon didn’t comment on pricing, which means there’s a good chance these could be free (edit: they’re free).
They’re also promising that some kind of Star Wars themed VR experience is on the way, with The Force Awakens “missions” inside Verizon stores. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: Yup, they’re giving them away for free. Better get there early.
