HTC is trying their best to get the HTC One M8 and M9 on Android 6.0 Marshmallow by the end of this year, but now that it’s December you may be starting to worry that they won’t make it. So, what’s the current status?
Mo Versi responded to some questions about the incoming upgrades on Twitter, and his suggestion is that the builds are undergoing final testing and should be headed into the approval process in no time. Specifically, Versi says they’re still on track to have the updates out for unlocked models, though carrier variants may have to wait a bit. Verizon is the only carrier they’re sticking to a December due date for the HTC One M9, while the other carriers are being met with a “very early 2016” expectation (Sprint’s M8 update is being targeted for January 4th, 2016, for instance).
Long story short, different carriers require different testing, so you’ll get different timelines, but HTC shouldn’t make any one user wait long enough that they’ll start pulling their hair out. If you don’t get it by Christmas, well, at least there’s something else to look forward to in the new year aside from meeting your own resolutions.
