Android 6.0.1 is now the latest version of Android and with that, OEMs like Samsung, LG, and HTC have officially been put on notice. It’s only a matter of time before we start seeing the rollout of a new round of software updates (only after updating to regular 6.0, of course) and chiming in on the issue is HTC Product Manager Mo Versi.
Because Mo knows knows how badly everyone is looking forward to this big new “emoji update,” he took a minute to update everyone on the status of both the HTC One M9 and HTC One A9 over on Twitter. According to him, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is still on target for the unlocked One M9 before the end of the month, along with Android 6.0.1 for the One A9. Because this only applies to unlocked versions of both these devices, those bought from a carrier store will take a little/lot longer for the update to hit (carrier approval process takes some time).
With HTC promising to update the HTC One A9 to the latest versions of Android within 15 business days — excluding Christmas, of course — that means the One A9 should receive the update by December 28th at the latest. We have a feeling it could be before even then given that, with the exception of a few new emoji, not much else changed.
