Samsung’s new bioprocessor can monitor stress levels, skin temperature, muscle mass and more

0

Samsung has announced the development of a new bioprocessor made for their fitness wearables, namely the Samsung Gear smartwatch lineup. This is the world’s first “all-in-one” chipset of its kind, and it can measure a ton of different things on one block of silicon:

  • Body fat
  • Skeletal muscle mass
  • Heart rate
  • Heart rhythm
  • Skin temperature
  • Stress level

So, what are the benefits of being able to fit it all on the same chip? It could mean more cost-efficient production, and it could also lead to thinner smart watches or improved battery capacities. It could be more power efficient, as well.

Unfortunately Samsung isn’t yet ready to tell us which products will be getting the exciting new capabilities, but they did note that it’ll find its way into the market in the first half of 2016. We imagine the next Gear smart watch (Gear S3 or Gear Fit 2 anyone?) is a prime candidate to champion the new chipset, but we’ll opt to wait for official word before jumping to any conclusions.
