We’re not sure what’s going on, but the screenshot feature on Google Now on Tap we told you about not long ago has gone missing in action for many people.
This feature is quite useful for taking screenshots for a couple of different reasons.
- This feature automatically cleared your status bar in the resulting screenshot so you don’t have to dismiss all your notifications.
- It was easier to do than the old method of holding the power and volume down buttons at the same time.
So why would Google suddenly take it away? They likely haven’t. Some of those who reported the feature missing saw it return a bit later, and even our own Rob Jackson saw the feature missing only for it to return just seconds later. Others simply haven’t been affected.
This smells like a nasty bug that could be screwing things up server-side. It’s not unlike the bug which caused the “Do Not Disturb” feature to disappear and reappear multiple times. We can’t seem to find any rhyme or reason in terms of which devices or exact versions of Android are affected.
We’re not sure how or why this keeps happening, but you can bet we’ll be reaching out to Google to see if they can shed some light on all this. In the meantime, let us know in the comments below whether the option has disappeared on your own Marshmallow device.
