nixon mission android wear 1

Nixon’s first Android Wear watch is built for surfing, skiing and snowboarding

A company specializing in active wearables named Nixon is here with a brand new Android Wear watch to gawk at. What you’re looking at here is known as the Nixon Mission.

The first thing you’re likely to notice is the absence of overly-machined metal and a claim to be the most elegant “timepiece” you’ll ever see when it really isn’t. What you do see is a pretty durable smartwatch that can be submerged in 100 meters of water, a mark not achieved by any other smartwatch to date.

The Nixon Mission is meant for those who like spending time on the water (surfers) or on the slopes (skiers and snowboarders). Its shell is a mix of strong polycarbonate and a stainless steel 316L-reated bezel (which you can get in up to 15 different styles) that slightly raises above the display to protect it from damage.

Inside is Qualcomm’s newest wearable-focused chipset known as the Snapdragon Wear 2100, so it has a piece of kit that not others can boast right now. You’ll be able to exchange your wrist straps if you prefer, with Mission offering 20 different alternatives if you aren’t feeling the less-than-exciting standard bands.

For software, the company has Surfline loaded up that keeps you informed on weather and course conditions for whichever activity you’re going out for. Unfortunately we don’t have a release date or price just yet, but you can sign up to be notified at the company’s website right here.
