Will the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 use a Snapdragon 823?
File this one under “sketchy, far-fetched and likely fake.” A new rumor making the rounds suggests the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 will opt to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 823. That in itself is not so wild considering the Snapdragon 823 is essentially a Snapdragon 820 with higher clock speeds.
Our reason for hesitation comes two-pronged:
- The rumor suggests the chipset will also be featured in an unknown Sony Xperia device, as well as the LG G Flex 3. If you don’t remember, LG shut the G Flex line down as they looked to focus on the LG V10 and all its spiritual successors set to arrive down the line. Unless LG suddenly found the need to revive the LG G Flex 2 after seemingly sunsetting the series, we’re going to be doubtful on this one.
- If Samsung is going to use a more powerful chip for their second half flagships, why wouldn’t they simply go with Exynos? Snubbing their own silicon in favor of a third party’s doesn’t sound like the Samsung we know. Sure, they have Snapdragon and Exynos variants of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge currently available, but those 2 chipsets are seen as on par with each other. We wouldn’t expect Samsung to make their own hardware obsolete.
But just as the above rumor is untrustworthy, speculation is no more so. We should always wait for more concrete evidence or word from trusted sources before making many conclusions either way, but it’s nice to start thinking about what could be once Samsung launches the device later this year (something which could happen as early as Summer).
