Huawei’s first EMUI app lands on Google Play, plans to decouple more apps from the OS in the future
Let’s be honest: most Android OEMs are pretty terrible at keeping their devices up to date with the latest versions of Android, letting alone pushing out system updates to address bugs or other issues. One of the better trends we’ve seen in Android are OEMs decoupling system apps from the OS, instead placing them in the Google Play Store where they can be updated independent of full system updates.
Joining the ranks of Google, Motorola, HTC, Sony, and others is Huawei (better late than never). Today, Taylor Wimberly of Huawei Device USA announced on Google+ that Huawei Backup — an app found on Huawei devices as part of their custom EMUI software — is the first of what could be more Huawei apps to find itself decoupled from the OS, dropped onto Google Play where it can be maintained and updated on a regular basis.
