Opened Google Play Music on your PC lately? You might have noticed its interface changed from Orange to Purple. It would be an odd and seemingly random change any other time, but unless you’ve been living under a rock it’s likely you know why: it’s to celebrate Prince.
If you don’t know, the iconic music star passed away yesterday. He was 57 years old and reportedly suffering a severe case of the flu. He seemed to assuage concerns of his health by appearing at a music festival a week ago. It’s still not known if that illness was linked to his death as an autopsy isn’t scheduled to happen until later today.
In any case, he’s gone, and the best thing to do in this time if he was important to you is to remember him, celebrate him, and honor him the best way you can. For passing musicians, the best way to do that is usually giving their classic tracks a good listening.
The Google Play Store has many great albums from the legend, including the album that put him on the map (and that the whole “purple” thing was inspired from) named Purple Rain. That’s a great starting point if you don’t know of Prince’s greatness, so be sure to check it out if you’re curious. Looking for something more visual? His film Purple Rain is an excellent example of his multi-faceted talents, as well.
