Samsung launches Gear 360 camera in South Korea, but word on a US launch is still in the air

During Samsung’s Unpacked event at Mobile World Congress 2016, the company announced a new 360-degree camera alongside the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung announced the device with the intention to make Virtual Reality content easier to create and access for the everyday person.

Now the device is available for purchase through Samsung’s Korean website for $350, and will make its way to other parts of the world starting next month. At this time, Samsung is sticking to its guns and has confirmed the Gear 360 will not make it to the US when launched Globally.

The Gear 360 features a camera that records 360-degree video at resolutions up to 4K 30fps. It also has a tripod for you to set the device up to record any footage that you want to. Although it had not been officially released anywhere yet, the Gear 360 made an appearance at the Oscars when Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar.

If you’re itching to get your hands on a 360-degree camera, you can purchase LG’s 360 Cam for only $200. That may help you get a feel for what the device can do until it becomes available state-side.
