Oculus published a blog post that released some interesting numbers in regards to the Samsung Gear VR. According to the post, there were over 1 million people who used Samsung’s Virtual Reality headset, and that number is even more impressive when you look at the limited availability of the device. The Samsung Gear VR is only compatible with these devices:
- Samsung Galaxy S6
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
- Samsung Galaxy Note 5
- Samsung Galaxy S7
- Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
The Gear VR has been available since September of 2014, but has seemed to really pick up in popularity recently, part of which may be attributed to the deals and sales that were included in the pre-ordering charades with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Regardless of the sales, the Gear VR only costs $100 and is a great way to get into the world of Virtual Reality if you’re an owner of any of the above devices.
It’s also stated that there have been over 250 apps created just for the Gear VR, with more apps being submitted regularly. In addition to the games being available for the Gear VR, the video content is growing substantially. A highlight for the video content is a new series from Felix & Paul Studios, named Nomads, which takes people on a 360 degree tour of the lives of several different nomadic people.
Finally, there will be an update to the Oculus Home application coming in June which will be a complete overhaul on the home experience with your Gear VR. The update will make it easier to find your newest downloaded content, as well as a new library interface within the Oculus mobile app to help find the best apps and games for the Gear VR.
