Lenovo officially unveils Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus with 5.5-inch 1080p displays and octa-core chipsets

Lenovo made their big announcement in India today. They’ve launched this year’s iterations of the Moto G lineup, with iterations being emphasized because we’re getting 2 such phones this year.

There’s the Moto G4, which is the baseline model designed to be as affordable as can be. Then you have the Moto G4 Plus, which spruces things up a bit.

The Moto G4’s specs are highlighted by a spacious 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution, which is one of the biggest upgrades we’re going to enjoy compared to last year’s model. Also significant is the addition of Qualcomm’s Octa-Core Snapdragon 617 chipset, a nice step up from the dual-core silicon from yesteryear’s model.

For camera, we’re getting bumped to a 13-megapixel front sensor that can shoot 1080p video. It’s joined by a 5MP selfie camera on the front.

Other specs include a 3,000mAh battery, 16GB or 32GB of storage (microSD slot included), and 2GB of RAM.

The Moto G4 Plus is by and large the same device, though its added fingerprint sensor is sure to be a welcome addition for many. It also comes with a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 cable in the box so you won’t have to provide your own. 

The camera on the G4 Plus also gets bumped to 16-megapixel, and can handle quick focusing needs thanks to its hybrid and also enjoys quick focusing thanks to laser and phase detection autofocus capabilities. It’s an f/2.0 sensor, meaning it can let in a fair bit of light to make for more impressive lowlight photography.

What’s interesting is Motorola has a few different storage and RAM configurations available for the G4 Plus. A baseline model is available with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, but there will also be options of 3GB and 32GB of storage, and 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It’s not typically something you see in budget phones where users are usually left to their microSD slots to get more memory.

The devices will be sold exclusively on Amazon in India. Motorola has yet to detail pricing for the Moto G4, but the G4 Plus will run you RS 13499 (about $200) for the 16GB/2GB model. You’ll be paying RS 14499 (about $225) for the 32GB/3GB one. Pricing for the 4GB model is not yet known, and availability for other regions is also still in the air.
