Android TV-powered Xiaomi Mi Box officially headed to the US with 4K HDR support
Yesterday, Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra released a few teasers hinting that the Chinese manufacturer would be unveiling some sort of new Android TV-powered set top box at Google IO. Sure enough, the Mi Box is now official. If you’re experiencing a little déjà vu, that’s probably because Xiaomi already released a Mi Box in China. Of course, that version was running a full version of Android with MIUI’s heavy TV UI on top.
This new version of the Mi Box — officially making its way to the US later this year — runs Android TV and brings some some of the most powerful hardware features we’ve seen yet in an Android TV set top box. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- 60fps 4K video decoding
- HDR10 and HDMI 2.0a support
- Dolby Digital Plus + DTS surround sound
- Bluetooth voice remote
- USB port for additional storage
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
There’s also an optional Mi Game Controller for a console-like gaming experience and while pricing was never mentioned, Xiaomi is the king at offering high-end hardware at rock bottom low prices. No word on an exactly when the Mi Box will launch — or it it’ll also be making its way to Europe — but we’re sure to learn more in the weeks to follow. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
