Google is working on a new self-driving car research center near Detroit
Google has been feverishly working to expand its Self-Driving Car project and is looking to branch outside of the West Coast. According to a post on Google+, Google is building a new research center just outside of the car capitol of the World, Detroit, Michigan.
The company has gone so far in its development that it has already begun reaching out to individuals to just sit behind the wheel of one of these cars for $20 an hour. The latest update shows that Google is committed to bringing self-driving cars to the masses and where else to get feedback, than where automobiles got their start.
“Many of our current partners are based here, so having a local facility will help us collaborate more easily and access Michigan’s top talent in vehicle development and engineering. At this 53,000 sq ft development center, our engineers, working with local partners, will further develop and refine self-driving technology.”
The new development center is also close to home for Dodge-Chrysler who signed a deal with Google to provide Chrysler mini-vans for testing. Additionally, this will give Google a new location to test its new vehicles and see what happens in different situations.
