Honor is back with another budget-friendly smartphone – the Honor 5C. The phone was introduced in China a few months back, but the company is now bringing it to Europe for €199.99 or £149.99 in the UK. For that price, you get a run of the mill mid-range device with a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Kirin 650 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 13MP main camera, 8MP front-facing camera and a 3,000 mAh battery. Notably, the fingerprint sensor has disappeared, but we’re not sure that many people will care.
Notably, the fingerprint sensor has disappeared, but we’re not sure that many people will care. The Honor 5C is a great phone for the price. If you’ve played around with the Honor 5X, the 5C will feel very familiar. It’s a bit smaller and lighter than the 5X, but we actually prefer the design of the 5C since the phone features plastic along its edges which accentuate the aluminum back panel. The basic look is similar to HTC’s flagship smartphones or the new OnePlus 3, but it somehow has a look that’s completely unique.
The Huawei Kirin processor used in the 5C is a bit slower than the Snapdragon 616 that’s used in the 5X, but most people will not notice the difference unless they are running benchmarks or playing graphic intensive games. If all you need is a smartphone for some light web browsing, snapping pictures or keeping up with social media, the 5C should serve you quite well. The Kirin 650 is also extremely power efficient, allowing the 3,000 to go a full day on a single charge. While we were not able to test this ourselves, the unit we play with for 20 minutes had a 65% charge after being manhandled by tech journalists for nearly an hour.
We’re hoping to get a demo unit for review in the next few weeks, but if you can’t wait that long, you can buy the phone from Honor’s vMall.eu online retail store.
