A while back, Samsung released its “Grace UX” beta build of TouchWiz to a group of beta testers in Korea. While there have been screenshots which show some of the changes that are included in the next version of TouchWiz, HDBlog.it has put up a 15-minute video, showing off the new software running on a Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Since Samsung usually saves major TouchWiz updates to be released with flagship phones, there’s a good chance that Grace UX will be finalized and installed on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 when it is unveiled in August.
The video shows that the latest build of TouchWiz isn’t dramatically different than what’s installed on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, but the UI has been tweaked with a flatter look. This applies to the home screen, notifications panel, and settings. Users will find new customization options for Samsung’s first-party widgets, an updated wallpaper/themes app, revamped folders and quick toggles which allow you to tweak specific settings without having to jump into the main settings menu.
Samsung has also added contextual menus for apps which can be accessed by swiping up on an app icon. It reminds us of the 3D Touch feature Google is playing around with in Android N. Since this a beta build, there are a handful of things which aren’t working. That being said, this latest version of TouchWiz looks quite promising. For more information about the custom ROM used in the video, be sure to beck out ksr007’s thread on XDA-Developers.
Do you think Samsung’s Grace UX is a move in the right direction for TouchWiz?
