Sundar: Android users have downloaded Google Duo over 5 million times

Last week, Google started rolling out its new video-calling app, Duo. There were some issues with signing up at first due to country restrictions, but a couple days later and Duo was available for all. Now, a week later, it seems that Duo has been downloaded over 5 million times by Android users.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai, took to Twitter to share the great news, but left one question behind. Where in the world is Allo? It seems that everyone just wants some type of update on the messaging service which is supposed to tag-team with Duo to replace Hangouts for consumers.

The other question that I’ve wondered about is the total number of downloads when looking at both iOS and Android. The download results for Duo on iOS probably don’t come close to Android, but it would still be interesting to see if Duo is really turning into a viable cross-platform option. Then again, it’s only a week into its availability, so the jury is still out on that one.
