Not too long ago, SwiftKey found themselves in an interesting predicament after their word prediction engine began showing phone numbers and email addresses from other people outside of your contacts. It actually had more to do with their sync service which was apparently pooling everyone’s contact information together — yeah, kind of a big deal. As a result, SwiftKey was forced to shut down their sync service and some types predictions while they worked on a fix.
It seems like they’ve been making some headway as updates to both the stable and beta versions of SwiftKey (6.4.1.45) have reintroduced the sync feature. Before you get too excited, only SwiftKey Beta is bringing back “@” predictions (which will eventually make their way to SwiftKey proper). SwiftKey says that because they wiped everything on their end, the app will have to relearn your number, email, and @s in order to pull up predictions for those again. But that’s not all the beta has going for it…
SwiftKey Beta is also adding support for all of the new emoji introduced in Android 7.0 Nougat including skin tone modifiers (just long press on an emoji to change its skin color). Just remember to use the new emoji sparingly as most people will only see a blank box until their OS adds support for the new emoji. The update is rolling out now and you can find it on the Google Play Store.
