Xiaomi has already confirmed that a US version of their Android TV box — the Xiaomi Mi Box — will launch in the US. Today, more details on that launch are being offered up by TechCrunch.
The news is that the device is set to launch this October, and it’ll have a very attractive price point to attract potential buyers. Long story short: you probably don’t need to save more than $100.
We imagine that “less than $100” expectation will be achieved by making the device cost $99.99 as is standard with the products it’s competing with, namely Apple’s TV and the Amazon Fire TV. It can handle 4K like the rest of them, and with Android TV on board you’ll have access to a growing ecosystem of apps and games. Here’s all you’re getting with the package:
- 60fps 4K video decoding
- HDR10 and HDMI 2.0a support
- Dolby Digital Plus + DTS surround sound
- Bluetooth voice remote
- USB port for additional storage
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
You can also add an optional Bluetooth gaming controller if you’re into that, though we don’t have pricing info on that right now. The Xiaomi Mi Box could turn out to be the hit Android TV device of the year. If you’re interested, stay tuned.
