Twitter’s Direct Messaging platform has always been geared towards keeping conversations between parties completely secret and protected. However, the company has been trying to increase the functionality of your conversations to create a better overall experience.

Starting today, Twitter DM’s will do just that. Twitter has added the read receipts, typing indicators, and web link previews within your Direct Messages. Although not necessarily the perfect way to communicate with friends and others over the web, at least Twitter is improving the experience.
Additionally, when sending messages to multiple people, you will be able to see who has seen the message, and who is currently responding. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Twitter Direct Messages turn into a full-fledged app sometime in the near future, but then again that may be just a pipe dream. Who says we can have too many messaging services?
